Sacred Music of the English Renaissance
In the mid fifteenth century, England began to stir from its medieval hibernation. Figures such as Henry VIII and William Shakespeare helped shape the political, religious and literary identity of an increasingly independent country, and sacred music flourished with composers such as Byrd, Weelkes, Taverner and Tallis.
Joined by guest sopranos Kim Reinhart and Julie Crouch, Il Sono Men's Vocal Ensemble presents Glory in the Highest: Sacred Music of the English Renaissance The program will span music from the early to late renaissance, and will feature Thomas Tallis' Mass for Four Voices. The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer provides the perfect visual and acoustic setting for this beloved genre of male-voiced singing. Tickets $20 at the door.
